Comics that I collect, have collected, or pique my interest.
- Johnny the Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen C. Vasquez and published by
Slave Labor Graphics. It's a very strange book about a seriously messed up guy who kills people
to feed blood to a wall in his house that has a big evil monster behind it. His companions are
Nail Bunny, the Psycho Doughboys (Mr. Eff and Psycho Doughboy), and Squee (his next door
neighbor whom he tends to traumatize). For more of Jhonen's work go here.
- The Sandman by Neil Gaiman and published by DC/Vertigo Comics.
It's a book about the Endless; a very dysfunctional family who all have very specific jobs that
effect the lives of mortals. But mostly it focuses on Dream and there are occasional appearances
of his older sister, Death. I'm so close to completing my collection. This basically means that I either
have the trade paper backs or individual issues of the entire series.
- Death: The High Cost of Living by Neil Gaiman and published by
DC/Vertigo Comics. It's a miniseries about Death and how every millennium she comes to Earth as
a mortal for one day so she can understand the lives she takes. (I do have the newer series,
The Time of Your Life, but I didn't like the story as much.)
- The Dreaming by various authors with covers by Dave McKean and
published by DC/Vertigo Comics (I like Vertigo, in case you haven't noticed that by now). It
features stories about the other dwellers of the Dreaming. The covers are beautiful and it
really kind of picks up where the Sandman left off. Started out great but dropped off in quality considerably.
But the last few issues I've read (around issue 30 or so) the story was really good.
-
Kabuki is drawn by a guy named David Mack. Kabuki is a really cool
book about a bunch of hired hit women who wear masks constantly and have a really cool dragon
tattoo on their backs. It's just a really keen book. I could explain why I like it so much, but that's why I
wrote an entire essay on strong female comic book characters.
- Squee! is the tale of Johnny's loveable little pal and his
trauma sponge, Shmee. It is a series of four books that details Squee's adventures with aliens,
school and the psychiatric ward. It's a great book. The better place to go about this book
would be my Squee page.
- Milk & Cheese; Dairy Products Gone Bad by Evan Dorkin and published by Slave Labor
Graphics is really good. It's wild and crazy dairy product fun... you should go out and buy it,
while you're doing that, pick up the other comics you see proudly displayed for you on this page.
They are all just generally good and you'll probably like them a lot.
